This archived 2020 community article documented a simple fabric-mask project and Xpand's donation of elastic laces to people sewing masks for frontline workers.
Prepare The Materials
The project used washable fabric, elastic, scissors, pins, and basic sewing tools. Materials had to be clean and comfortable against the face.
Cut, Fold And Secure
Fabric pieces were measured, layered, folded, and stitched, with elastic loops fixed at the sides so the mask could sit around the ears.
Check The Fit
The finished mask needed to sit comfortably over the nose and mouth without making breathing difficult or leaving large gaps.
